Setting - similar to Firefly, post-Apocalyptic, mix of farming low-tech and spacer high-tech, somewhat grungy

Our team was hired by a woman to find her older sister who had disappeared years ago. At the time the subject had been late teens, early twenties; the client was 5 years or more younger. The parents and relatives had been ... indifferent.

The client had recently come across a series of letters hidden on the farm, written by her sister shortly before her disappearance. The letters were addressed to someone named Wayne and talked about her hopes for the future with her forbidden love. She described a community where she thought that they could find a life together.

On reading the letters, I came to the conclusion that this "Wayne" had groomed the girl and probably had murdered her but my captain smirked at me and advised me to read the letters again more carefully. When I did, I realized that "Wayne" was female and that was why the parents and family hadn't tried to find her before.

Since the client wanted to know where her sister was regardless, we continued with the investigation, heading for the island described in the letter. It was a place where folks keep to themselves and don't have much to do with outsiders. We enlisted the assistance of a spaceship crew known to the community for help. The crew (NOT the Firefly group) distracted the people in the pub with a sing-along and sprayed a mist in the air while they were singing. The mist was supposed to identify the woman if she was there.

{I took the puzzlement of how out of the dream with me, I suspect that it was set to identify any DNA markings similar to the client, but that's after-dream reasoning.}

I woke before we got any results.

The only things I remember about the song was that it was a defiantly proud song about how different the community was and one of the lines mentioned that they were "Different and odd - spelled O W D". Wish I could remember the lyrics.

Finished Cast in Honor by Michelle West last night, just before bed. Made the push to finish it since I was so close to the end. Still confusing when Gilbert is describing the possible realities in the lost section of the Winding Road and how Kaylin could influence them.

I've got a couple of books waiting for me at the public library The Girl on Legare Street which is the second in Karen White's paranormal series and a new acquisition that I requested after reading the description in WOWlibrary newsletter. I'll try to pick the up this afternoon after work.

Because I was reading Cast in Honor before bed, I did not write any notes about O Hobbit, but I do need to finish up the entry on Gandalf.

I may start reading Cast in Flight (which follows Cast in Honor) next.
