I had another Borderland dream this morning. An evil overlord fell in love with a woman visiting in his Borderland and he followed her back to Mortalrie. They married and had a child ... a boy ... while living and working in Mortalrie.
For what it's worth, my dreaming self kept identifying him with Darth Vader, complete with black armour and face concealing helmet, but outside the armour he was young and a bit scruffy. Thinking back, he looked a bit like a young Bob Denver from the Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
Meanwhile, things back in the Borderland were getting dire and the lord's presence was required, so I was sent to try to talk him into returning.
They lived poor in a small two bedroom apartment, a young working couple's first home, very much kid-lived in. They invited me to dine with them - dinosaur-shaped chicken patties, the little boy claiming I was sitting at his place, very engaging.
After dinner, we talked while the child and a visiting small friend ran in and out the living room. The woman ... the lord's wife ... insisted that he had a responsibility to his people and that he should go back and do what he could to help. Then the children came in and distracted us. I'm not sure how, but their presence convinced the young lord to take up his lordly duties again.
Looking very sad, he stood and pulled out a soft beret type hat with a fancy jeweled brooch on the side and put it on, saying, "I didn't want to do this, but since you asked ..."
Once the hat was on his head, his entire aspect changed. He stood straighter, more proud, more ... regal, if you will.
I stood and knelt down on one knee and my language changed, became more formal. I addressed him as if he hadn't been present before, telling him that I had missed his presence and once again informing him of the crisis in the land he had left behind.
The two boys were shocked into silence.
We returned through the Border but it was mostly journeying while watching out for danger; I don't remember anything happening.
