I was reminded today how it was when I was a child in school, in 4th grade, I think it was, we would be required to create a folder in which to take home samples of our work for our parents to see. To decorate these folders with a picture suitable for the season and the month.
When January came around, our teacher warned us that she did not want to see ANY pictures of flowers. Because it was winter.
I was not one of the students who decorated my folder with flowers every month but that January ... being told that I could not draw flowers on my folder ... I had to.
I drew a beautiful picture of a float in the Rose Bowl Parade.
This memory got me to thinking of what I would draw today.
My Picture for today
A tree turned inside out like an umbrella in the wind.
The debris of the old year passing flying past
- year-old eye-pieces
- blazoned top-hats
spinning over and over and upward away.
Sweeping out the old, sweeping in the new.
Cookies cooling in pans; kitchen warm and glowing.
The maze resolved.
Ice cream or tower?
Witch or wizard?
Heart or head or good red herring?
