Ghosts can be transported from one location to another if they are anchored to something in physical reality. Cake works quite well. To be fair, this isn't an unknown idea; I've encountered it in some books. Seanan McGuire postulated that one ghost was able to manifest in different parts of a city because the bricks of his old home had been reused in different buildings in the city. Tanya Huff used this technique to allow a tethered ghost freedom of the house - he'd been confined to the room in which he'd died for almost a century. And I can't remember in which book or story someone put a rock in their pocket with the ghost tethered to the rock in order to take said ghost with them. Unfortunate since that was the one my sleeping brain used. The other two had the spirit able to move from one tether object to another. But in my dream, the ghost was attached to the tether had couldn't move beyond a certain diameter of its physical location.

There are always more basement levels in a dream than you think there are. (Or hidden rooms. Lots and lots of hidden rooms).

My dream took place in some distant future where technology has faded and metaphysics is taking over. It was in an academic setting - college level, I think, and probably in a paraphysics unit. I know that someone was moving the spirit of an older woman up from a basement level using a large cake as the tether. All the cake platters were dirty and I had to wash up. I was advised to use one that I wouldn't mind seeing destroyed in case it got "contaminated".

One research team had a digital camera - old technology - which they had intended to use to record the day by day changes in something. But they decided the camera was broken because they couldn't see the pictures they had taken, so they gave it to me. I was delighted to realize that I knew how to access the memory to show them the photos - that was about the time I woke up. Curious thing, I had some idea that all the film had been used taking useless shots in the dark, but it was clearly a digital camera because of the memory storage. Maybe my sleeping mind was combining film and memory space?

I've been watching season 2 of Lost Girl - two or three episodes a day. I think my brain is seizing on the images and mythology of the series to generate more intense, more fantastical dreams. I really like the series because of the solid research into Faerie-kind. They aren't just making things up at random the way so many do. Same reason I like Seanan McGuire's October Daye series and Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson. In fact, the series is triggering me to re-read both authors.
