Dream - unexpected & worrisome
Dec. 20th, 2021 05:05 amDriving in an unfamiliar city where I'd been before, going to the house of a relative who lives near water - perhaps on an island. I've been there before but it's dark and raining and traffic is being diverted from the way I know. The bridge is out. I'm worried about losing my way and about taking a different route to my destination than the one I expected to/ planned on.
I get on the ferry but I've forgotten my cape in the car.
I arrive and am settling into a room. A relative (cousin? sister?) comes in and informs me "Momma says that if you've lost your luggage, you need to call ..." someone. I reply that I didn't bring any luggage. Implication is that I don't ... or didn't ... intend to stay and that they don't really want me there.
Scene change:
An old woman (Mrs. Smith) with a small key in her hand standing inside a gate looking at a large bank of locked boxes ... private mailboxes for a complex perhaps? She is upset. The box is open and empty and she doesn't understand why. She turns around and sees blood splashed on the ground outside the gate and she breaks down into hysterics. Someone helps her.
Scene change, same place, different view :
A man looking from the key in his hand to the masses of locked boxes, thinking about taking something out of one and putting it back in - but did he put it back in the same place?
Another man is beside him, the two of them look like handymen for the complex. Second man is short and fat and unpleasant.
Second man tells him that it probably doesn't matter or won't matter and it's no big deal. He makes some snide and insulting comment about Mrs. Smith's attack of hysterics.
Suddenly I'm there as myself and I try to call him a twit but the vowel comes out as an "a" instead. I realize that that is a worse insult for him given his great contempt for women. He gets offended and walks away.
