Journal - ladder accident

We were finishing the washing up after dinner when my son announced that our neighbour across the street had fallen off a ladder. He saw it happen when he was looking out the window. I put on my clogs and ran across to see if I could help.
Mostly, I was able to be there with him, keeping him talking and NOT getting up, while his wife ran inside and got herself ready to take him to the emergency room. I think it eased her mind that she wasn't leaving him on his lonesome.
He didn't seem hurt too badly - a bump on the back of his head, a scrape on one hand but he was bleeding from one ear. Plus, he's had heart surgery, so he's on blood thinners; the bruising was pretty fierce.
He'd been up the ladder to remove a bird's nest on the security lamp over the garage. I say ... leave it!
